The return of the Kate Bush frizz! I know that my hair is a large feature of my photos but “if you’ve got flaunt it!”. This is my last set of garment photos form Sweden. This dress was origionally made for my birthday, back in….May. Sorry about not posting sooner but when the sun is out I just want to run to the beach and eat ice cream. These photos were taken just outside our rental house, amid the trees. I quite like the light green hues of this backround, and the subtle shafts of sunlight. The fabric is a lightweight poly knit from Paris. I wanted to make a simple jersey dress, as anything less then this casual is not worn. The fabric was also used in this top. I didn’t like the white in a dress so I dyed it. That was a fun experience… I had an indigo dye kit but Im still not great on chemical percentages and as such so I used the entire bundle, which was to dye 25 t-shirts. So I dyed this top, two meters of linen and over 1000g of yarn, except the chemicals made everything in my bucket look green.. A horrible bright green. Thankfully I just needed to take the pieces out of the dye bucket and then they turned blue again. But the scare of ruining that much fabric and yarn (it was two meters of gorgeous natural linen!) Well I have yet more pictures but I think I’ll find some non-Sweden ones for some interest. Ill be back soon.
I know that this look is quite cliché, a white t-shirt with jeans…How unheard of! But for me it is quite rare. See I’m a person who loves their food, over the past few years I’ve developed a small passion for flavour and experimental baking, so white clothing is usually not a good thing for me. However I’m sick of wearing dark colours, blues and greys which is seemingly the only thing in my wardrobe and opted for white, as for the jeans… well it was cold. The pattern is a super simple hack of a dartless bodice. I added a bit of width to the side seams and tightened the sleeves. The pattern used here is the same as for this top, which was worn obsessively through me-made-may. Now I think it has a new contender for its spot in my most worn items as I’m loving the white more then I ever realised that I would. The fabric is some completely synthetic jersey from Paris (I went there during Easter) I had originally intended to dye the top but kept it its natural shade as I liked its simplicity. My favourite thing about this fabric is that it is semi-transparent. Recently I’ve had a love of layers and double necklines, this top gives me both a practical item and a little bit of my recent neckline obsession.
I can definitely see more of these tops in my future, I even have some lilac mesh-like jersey that I’m thinking of using for an embellished version… In the mean time I’ll leave you with some summer tunes!
Went out about town to buy some birthday gifts as May is the season of birthdays.
Had a day of hitting the books and so I decided to dance come photo time, just hit the volume to max on my headphones and headed to the attic!
Wearing a super simple top that has yet to make an appearance on the blog. Day 19
The temperature cooled just a little bit but I’ve already declared that the season of bare legs to of begun so I just wore a jumper instead.
Decided to wear this skirt again.
Sorry for the depressed look but this was taken the day before exams and as you can tell, I’m not too excited about them.
Wearing this skirt. Day 24
Happy birthday to me! We spent the day about town trying to forget about exams and also tried to coax the sun to come out as well.
Wearing a new dress especially made for the day that shall be here soon. Day 25
Once the sun decided to come out I simply had to enjoy it, so my dad and I headed to the beach to try and skim rocks and dip toes into the ocean. Thankfully the water was shallow enough that you could actually walk in without getting frozen.
Wearing a new denim skirt that shall be coming here in a little bit.Day 26
I was feeling lazy (I’d had my physics exam earlier that day) and just wore some hand made friendship bracelets.Day 27
Relaxed and studied away while awaiting the next set of exams.
Wearing this skirt.
Nearly free! Had an art history exam that worked out well and then walked home in the sunshine, the loom of summer was so near that I decided to take some photos outside for a change.
Wearing this top.
I felt a little dance was in order for the freedom that I had acquired! No more exams or studies! Three whole months to do whatever I wanted in (which shall in part include a new collection, mood boards to come shortly!). My mum and I had a nice meal talking about the existence of raspberries (with maple syrup and drop scones or with chocolate moose), chocolate moose with raspberries was on the desert menu and so the universe, for once decided the debacle of whether or not to get desert!
Wearing a new denim skirt and black t-shirt.
First day of freedom! And I did what makes me happiest, made a new top and photographed it the very same day! That night I went out for dinner in the hard rock café, the night included “stolen” polaroids (masterfully stuck together with the grease of our burgers) serenades of Whitney Houston songs and some late night dancing on the streets of Dublin! All captured with a plucky fisheye and its frightening flash!
Wearing a new top/ t-shirt that shall be making it’s debut shortly.
Hope you’ve enjoyed my me-made-may posts, sorry for the delay but it’s already turned out to be a busy summer!
I’ve learned from the month that you can never have enough t-shirts, or shorts! That I’m very bad at wearing old cloths or anything remotely fancy or without stretch. My summer shall, in light of this, be filled with comfy, town appropriate, shorts, nice t-shirts and hopefully some casual shirts to make me look that slight bit smarter! I also promise no “grumpy teenager” expressions, only the crazed three year old’s smile!
Happy summer to everyone on holidays! And for anyone who’s not at least the day are longer, the skirts are shorter and the rain is warmer!
Wore this cardigan as the temperature dropped a little. Day 9
Wore an unblogged hoddie and spent a good while playing with the reflections as the lighting looked cool.
Wore a new denim skirt (which you can view more of here) while watching eurovison.
Spent the day studying but managed to grab a few minutes for some photos. Wearing this top.
Another day at the books but I wore a new dress to make myself feel better. The dress is yet to be blogged (isn’t that what summers are for?!) Day 13
This is what I have entitled the study monster! And yes I did model this beautiful look in public and I am now sharing it here… It shows my wackier, book-crazed self! Wearing a simple black t-shirt that shall be shared soon.
The slog remains but it’s better when you can wear shorts.. Wearing this shirt.
Decided to once more wear shorts (new so unblogged) but the weather conspired against me and I had to wear tights with them… I also wore this top as I forgot how amazing it is.
We finally had our first day of sun! And man was it celebrated! My dad and I had burgers while appreciating a warm wind, then saw Godzilla (which is amazing! And not just for sci-fi geeks) and then watched the sun go down. I have a ton of beautiful photos too which shall be here soon. Wearing this top and some handmade bracelets.
I’ll try be back soon with more pictures, just have to survive through my exams first…
I’ve decided that for spring/summer I’m gonna make myself a jacket. I have the fabric and an idea of what to do but just need confirmation. These are some photos of what I’d like it to look like. I have one class left to draft it and then I’m on my own. I think I might just use my coat pattern and shorten it. I can’t wait to see it turn out. The reason I’m making a jacket is that I only own a nice leather jacket and a nice denim jacket, the only thing is that I always wear my bag (which is black leather) and my jeans so those jackets rarely work with my outfits so this jacket will be wool. Warm and stylish!
The reason I’m posting about this is because I’m going to china tomorrow!!! Sooo excited. I’m going on a cultural exchange but (fingers crossed) that I can visit old town, fabric markets here I come! I’ll be gone so there will no activity so if I don’t reply to a message it’s just that I can’t get online or to the blog. I’ll be gone for 11 days so chow!
That’s it. Hope everyone had a good 2012 and bring on the new year. Time to face new battles and learn new skills. I’ll do another resolutions post soon but for the time-being i’ll leave you with this.
It’s that time of the year again. When all the bloggers either slowly make their way off the internet or are, posting far more reguarly. Can you guess which one I am? I have been really busy since I last did a post. I ended saying that I had a week of internship at John Rocha. The week was amazing, I got to work on actual pieces for the boys 2014 summer collection for debenhams. I also got to meet John Rocha himself and I got to see his daughter and wife. The main person who gave me work for the week even said he might want me back for summer! I was head-over-heels for the entire week. Even though I had a few coffee runs and managed to mess one up I would be so excited to go there again. In case your wondering who John Rocha is here is his website.
Back to the gift. I have been so busy the last week that I nearly forgot about my friends birthday party on Saturday. She had asked me if I could make her a bright coloured case for her ipod because the screen is kinda falling apart and she keeps losing it in her bag. So I made her this. I have actually used the fabric before in a summer dress but I don’t have any photos up because by the time I could take photos it was way too cold, it’s a lightweight linen-cotton blend I think. I re-inforced the linen with stayflex and also put in some wading. I also lined it with a soft plaid fabric which I also used for this.
Iron the interfacing onto the onto the outer fabric, then sew the outer pieces with the wadding together, making sure the outer fabric pieces are facing each other and the wadding is facing you. Once you’ve sewn the seam turn the piece inside out so that the outer fabric is facing you and the wading is inside.
Next, sew the lining pieces together, right sides facing each other. When you have that done leave the piece as is and put it into the outer piece with the wading. Stuff it in so that the seams are facing each other.
Lastly line up the top seams and sew them together using either bias-binding or ribbon. Then iron and you have a new case.
Sorry if the instructions are a little hard to understand but I didn’t take any photos while making it. If you do have any questions just leave a comment and I’ll get back to you.
